Cate Blanchett is reportedly the front-runner to play Wallis Simpson in an upcoming film based on her life.
The rights to author Anna Pasternak's biography of the famous royal, The American Duchess have been sold to production company The Gotham Group.

'It's rather thrilling as they made me a really generous offer,' Pasternak told the Daily Mail's Richard Eden. 'Personally, I think Damian Lewis would be wonderful as Wallis's husband.'
Meanwhile Australian Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is the favourite to play Miss Simpson, the American divorcée whose relationship with King Edward VIII kick-started the abdication crisis of 1936.

Following the King's abdication, the couple became the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and lived out the rest of their days in Paris, at the splendid 4 Route du Champ d'Entraînement.

Parallels between the Duchess of Sussex, another American divorcée, and Simpson have been frequently made, with Pasternak herself conceding there is no better time than now to bring this story to the big screen

Wallis Simpson has previously been played by Andrea Riseborough in the 2011 film W.E. and Lia Williams in The Crown.
Widely admired for her sense of style, Simpson was known for her collection of couture pieces, with designers like Elsa Schiaparelli, Christian Dior and Paco Rabanne creating bespoke pieces for her.
Roland Mouret's word, 'Love or hate her, the world is still obsessed by that woman,' have never rung truer...
